Houston Methodist recently announced their outline to begin construction on a new 400-bed hospital in the Cypress area.

A leader of hospitals in the city, the Cypress hospital will be the ninth Houston Methodist location.

"This expansion will help Houston Methodist better meet the health care needs of the growing Houston area," Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Austin, wrote in a tweet.

Officials with Houston Methodist have announced the purchase of 106 acres along Hwy. 290. The property, located between Barker Cypress and Skinner roads, was formerly occupied by Sysco Corp. The new campus will be modeled after the comprehensive Houston Methodist West and Houston Methodist The Woodlands facilities, and according to a press release, will ultimately have 400 beds, multiple medical office buildings and room for future growth.

The new hospital could open as early as 2024 and ultimately employ more than 500 people, according to the press release. Officials said outpatient clinics and medical staff offices are slated to open first.

Houston Methodist Hospital has been recognized by U.S. News & World Reports best hospitals and includes the following centers: Houston Methodist Emergency Care Centers, the Houston Methodist Imaging Center, the Houston Methodist Breast Care Center and the Houston Methodist Outpatient Center.

In 2019, Houston Methodist invested over $1 billion in charity and the community. The health center highlights four following care areas including better access to primary care services in underserved communities, access to specialty care services for underserved communities, removing blocks for mental health care for underserved communities and encouraging healthy life behaviors to lower the chance of chronic disease development.

Houston Methodist also prioritizes the development of healthy neighborhoods in underserved communities, educational empowerment for underserved and underrepresented communities and cultivating economic empowerment for underserved and underrepresented communities.
