Humble has a new athletic coordinator and head football coach in Splendora’s Marcus Schulz, the Humble Independent School District Athletic Department announced on May 19.

Schulz, who held the same positions at Splendora, told Vype that the opportunity to move south created “a perfect kind of match.”

"It's exciting knowing the success and prestige that Humble High School has had and the athletes that have come through Humble,” he told Vype.

“It's exciting to get to the 6A level, it's exciting to play at that level with a lot of good teams. We'll get in there, get our hands dirty as quick as possible and try and get things rolling."

He expressed his gratitude for the new opportunity on Twitter.

"Thank you @HumbleISD and @HumbleISD_Ath for this opportunity! @HWildcatsFB we will be ready," Humble's newest hire tweeted on May 19.

While at Splendora, Schulz put together a 29-43 record in a seven-season span.

The Wildcats went to the playoffs twice under Schulz’s watch, including the undefeated district campaign of 2018 for which he was named District 11-4A Coach of the Year and the 2018 All Montgomery County Football Coach of the Year.

A press release from Humble ISD said that 60 Splendora students from multiple sports signed college letters of intent during his tenure.

With a bachelor’s degree from Austin College and a master’s degree from Lamar University, Schulz has coached at the high-school level for nearly 20 years.

He succeeds Charles West, who was chosen as assistant athletic director for Spring Branch Independent School District.
