Houston was well represented at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday with two artists prominently associated with the fourth-largest city in the U.S. laying claim to the iconic phonograph-shaped accolade.

Beyoncé set a new record with her Best Dance/Electronic Music Album Grammy triumph, while Lizzo took home what’s considered the most important Grammy Award of all, Record of the Year.

Houston NBC affiliate KPRC reported that Beyoncé’s latest Grammy, which she won for her 2022 album “RENAISSANCE,” brought her overall total to 33, crowning her as the artist with the most Grammy wins.

The former Destiny’s Child frontwoman leapfrogged producer Quincy Jones and conductor Georg Solti to earn the distinction, according to KPRC.

While Beyoncé personally accepted the award for “RENAISSANCE,” she was absent earlier in the evening when “Cuff It,” a single from the album, was announced as the winner for Best R&B Song, Yahoo reported

Nile Rodgers of CHIC fame received the award in Beyoncé’s place by virtue of having a songwriting credit.

Born Melissa Jefferson, Lizzo garnered Record of the Year for the carrier single of her “Special” album, “About Damn Time.”

Billboard’s website reported that it was the first time the flute-playing rapper won a Big Four category award.

After receiving the accolade from Coldplay singer Chris Martin, Billboard reported, Lizzo dedicated her victory to the late Prince saying, “This is so unexpected.”

“When we lost Prince, I decided to dedicate my life to making positive music,” the Alief Elsik High School and University of Houston (UH) alumna said of her fellow Minnesotan. “I wanted to make the world a better place, so I had to be that change, to make the world a better place.”

Per Billboard, aside from thanking her producers, her family and her boyfriend, Lizzo also expressed gratitude toward Beyoncé, who was watching close by.

“Thank you so much,” she told her idol, the website reported. “You clearly are the artist of our lives!”

Lizzo joins Roberta Flack and Whitney Houston as the only three black female artists to capture Record of the Year.
