Prominent Houston attorney Tony Buzbee has his sights set on city hall again, this time city council for District G. Buzbee, who previously ran for mayor of the state’s largest city in 2019, announced his intentions to secure a seat on the horseshoe Aug. 21.

“I love our city,” Buzbee said in a Facebook post on his personal page. “I want to improve the quality of life here for all, and want to serve in a capacity where I can be most helpful.”

Buzbee said his loss to incumbent Mayor Sylvester Turner was "eye opening and humbling” for him, according to his Facebook post.

“I learned a lot about our city, its problems, some solutions and the great people who live here,” he said on Facebook.

Buzbee and his spouse are longtime residents of District G, which is currently represented by former prosecutor Mary Nan Huffman, according to Facebook.

If Buzbee succeeds at the ballot box in November, he’ll serve a district that runs from the River Oaks area west through the Memorial area, per a report from Houston CBS affiliate KHOU Channel 11. The station reports Buzbee made crime reduction and giving his potential constituents a voice are his main campaign priorities.

“I raised my kids in District G,” Buzbee said on Facebook. “This is our home. I am deeply concerned about crime in the city. It is out of control."

According to KHOU, Huffman claimed Buzbee of putting on “a cheap publicity stunt.”

"He doesn’t care about representing the taxpayers of District G for the next four years,” the councilwoman said, according to KHOU. “He doesn’t even care about representing Ken Paxton in his impeachment trial in September. He only cares about himself and his press clippings."

Buzbee is two weeks from entering the Senate chambers at the Texas Capitol Building to defend the suspended Texas attorney general against 20 articles of impeachment, KHOU reported. He faces off against fellow Bayou City attorneys Dick DeGuerin and Rusty Hardin, who lead the prosecution.
