Former Houston Texans star wide receiver Andre Johnson has been named as one of the nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2024. The Texans, Johnson's former team, expressed their excitement by saying, "Gold Jacket him," referring to the prestigious clothing item worn by those who have been enshrined in the Hall of Fame.

The Texans are hopeful that the third time will be the charm for Johnson, who has been eligible for induction since 2019. Johnson was selected by the Texans with the third overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft out of the University of Miami. He quickly emerged as the team's first true superstar, consistently surpassing 1,000 receiving yards throughout his decade-long career in Houston.

During his time with the Texans, Johnson accumulated impressive statistics, with 1,062 receptions for 14,185 yards and 70 touchdowns. The majority of these numbers were achieved while wearing a Texans uniform, with 1,012 catches, 13,597 yards, and 64 touchdowns coming during his tenure with the team.

Although Johnson had brief stints with division rivals Indianapolis and Tennessee after leaving the Texans in 2014, he eventually returned to Houston to announce his retirement over six years ago. He was recognized as the first person to be enshrined in the team's Ring of Honor in 2017, solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest players in franchise history.

In November, Johnson will find out if he becomes a semifinalist for the Hall of Fame. The Pro Football Hall of Fame will announce the 25 semifinalists, and if Johnson makes the cut, he will be one step closer to achieving football immortality in Canton, Ohio.
