Alexandra del Moral Mealer, the Republican candidate who ran against Democratic Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo in last fall's elections, has announced that she will no longer pursue her lawsuit challenging the election results. Mealer made the announcement on September 22nd, stating that she is committed to working with the legislature to ensure future elections adhere to the Texas Election Code.

In a Facebook post on September 21st, Mealer addressed her supporters, expressing her determination to continue advocating for transparency in elections. She criticized Harris County for failing to provide a comprehensive account of the alleged failures on Election Day and accused them of avoiding the capture of essential information that would support her legal claims. Mealer emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in future elections, a goal she intends to pursue by collaborating with the legislature.

Mealer and Hidalgo were engaged in a closely contested race for Harris County Judge, with Hidalgo ultimately securing a second term with 51% of the vote, as reported by the Houston Daily on November 9, 2022. Mealer, a combat veteran, campaigned on public safety, asserting that Hidalgo's approach was weak on crime.

Earlier this year, Mealer filed a lawsuit contesting the election results, joining other Republican candidates in Harris County who also questioned the outcome of their respective races. They alleged that significant operational issues at certain precincts may have denied voters their right to vote, according to a Houston Daily article published on January 9th.

It was reported by Houston ABC station KTRK News that Mealer recently hired new legal counsel after her original attorney resigned three weeks ago because they did not support her claims of voting fraud. Mealer has expressed her commitment to advocating for changes to the Texas Election Code that would ensure greater transparency.

While Mealer's lawsuit challenging the election results may have come to an end, her determination to promote transparency in future elections remains steadfast. She now looks to collaborate with the legislature to implement changes that adhere to the Texas Election Code.
