When it comes to the American League Championship Series (ALCS) between the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers, Texas fast food chain Whataburger had a playful response. In a social media post on October 11th, Whataburger compared the matchup to a famous NFL moment.

"“Astros [versus] Rangers going to have us feeling like Travis Kelce’s mom at the Super Bowl,” the San Antonio headquartered Whataburger said. This statement refers to Super Bowl LVII earlier this year, where Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce played against his brother, Jason Kelce of the Philadelphia Eagles, with their mother, Donna, in the stands. Travis emerged as the victor, with the Chiefs winning the game 38-35.

The ALCS matchup between the Astros and the Rangers is significant as it marks the first time the two Texas teams have met in the postseason. The Texas Rangers secured their spot in the ALCS by completing a sweep of the Baltimore Orioles, while the Astros advanced after defeating the Minnesota Twins in the MLB postseason.

While the rivalry between the Astros and the Rangers may not hold the same intensity as the historic feud between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox, there have been instances of tension between the two Texas franchises dating back to when the Astros joined the American League over a decade ago.

The ALCS will commence on October 15th, with the Astros hosting Games 1 and 2 in Houston. Despite struggling at home during the regular season, the Astros hope to secure victories in both matchups before heading to Arlington for Games 3 and 4. If necessary, Games 5, 6, and 7 will also be played.

The Lone Star flavored ALCS is sure to attract attention from baseball fans across Texas and beyond.
