Houston Astros' Mauricio Dubon has won the 2023 Rawlings American League (AL) Gold Glove Award for the utility position, marking his first career award of this kind. As revealed by a press release issued by the franchise on Nov. 5, Dubon, who joined the Astros through a trade with San Francisco Giants in 2022, is the first player from the team to earn a Gold Glove at the utility spot. "He played everywhere this year!", was a notable remark about his performance.

The Astros, having recently participated in their seventh American League Championship Series (ALCS), are now urging fans to cast their vote for Dubon for the Rawlings Platinum Glove Award. Fan voting commenced on Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. and will conclude on Nov. 9 at 11 p.m., with the winners set to be announced on the following day as per information in the press release.

Since its establishment in 1957, The Rawlings Gold Glove Award is regarded as an ultimate emblem of defensive superiority in Major League Baseball (MLB). The recipients are chosen via a voting process involving league managers and coaches coupled with a sabermetric component.

According to Houston CBS affiliate KHOU News, Dubon was one among thirteen first-time Golden Glove winners which also included catcher Jonah Heim, first baseman Nathaniel Lowe and right fielder Adolis Garcia from Texas Rangers, who recently won World Series championship.

Sports Illustrated (SI) reported that during second baseman Jose Altuve’s extended absence due to an injury sustained in March at World Baseball Classic (WBC), Dubon demonstrated significant skill not only in his defense but also with his batting abilities by accomplishing an extraordinary streak of hitting in twenty consecutive games.
