U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has commended the U.S. House of Representatives for passing a bipartisan resolution designed to secure water for Texas farmers. The resolution, which was authored by U.S. Representative Monica de la Cruz (R-TX), seeks to alleviate severe water shortages and bolster diplomacy to ensure that Mexico fulfills its annual obligations for water deliveries.

"Farmers in Texas and across the Southwest deserve reliable and predictable water supplies, and Mexico’s failure to adhere to its treaty obligations badly undermines those goals," Cruz said in a Nov. 30 press release issued by his office. "I’m proud to lead the fight in Congress with Rep. De La Cruz to secure those supplies and address the crisis farmers and ranchers are facing in the Lone Star State, and to have secured bipartisan majority support for language supporting U.S. officials and diplomats as they seek to secure Mexico’s compliance," the senator said, according to the release.", said Ted Cruz.

De la Cruz's resolution complements one that Senator Cruz authored and introduced in the Senate nearly three months ago, according to a release from his office. In October, the Senate approved an amendment mandating that the Secretary of State employ all available diplomatic measures to ensure Mexico's compliance with its treaty obligations. Although it received substantial bipartisan support, this amendment was halted by a filibuster.

Cruz expressed optimism about this week's House vote, asserting that it reaffirms Congressional support for officials conducting negotiations on this matter.

In addition, U.S Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) endorsed this initiative since South Texas farmers depend heavily on regular releases of water into Amistad and Falcon Reservoirs for their livelihoods.
