The University of Houston (UH) has officially named Willie Fritz as the next head coach of the Cougars football team, marking a significant change in leadership. Fritz, hailing from Tulane University, will be succeeding Dana Holgorsen who led the program for five seasons until his recent termination by the university.

Willie Fritz, the newly appointed head coach of UH's Cougars football team, was previously associated with Tulane University in New Orleans. Under his guidance, the Green Wave made it to consecutive American Athletic Conference (AAC) Championship games, according to a press release by UH. With an illustrious career spanning over three decades in coaching, Fritz brings significant experience to his new role at UH.

UH Vice President of Athletics, Chris Pezman expressed enthusiasm for Fritz's appointment. In a public statement he said, "No one in the country has been better at leading and developing student-athletes than Willie Fritz." He applauded Fritz's track record highlighting his success across various football programs. Pezman also extended a warm welcome to Willie's family and expressed support for Coach Fritz as they gear up for their venture in the Big 12 Conference.

As they prepare for their second year in the Big XII Conference, UH is optimistic that under Coach Fritz’s leadership they can improve on their previous performance. The university finished its first year with a disappointing 4-8 overall score and a conference play score of 2-7 according to Houston Daily. The university announced that an introductory press conference will be held inside TDECU Stadium Cougar Club on Dec. 4 at noon to welcome Coach Fritz.
