Former Houston Texans defensive end, J.J. Watt, has openly expressed his stance on the ongoing debate regarding which city, between the fourth-largest in the country and Nashville, should claim the legacy of the defunct Oilers. This statement came after the Texans secured a 19-16 overtime road victory against the Titans. Watt urged Houston's original National Football League (NFL) franchise to relinquish the Luv Ya Blue era uniforms they once donned.

In a series of postgame tweets on December 17, Watt stated, "We get the uniforms back," followed by "That’s how this works, I don’t make the rules," and concluded with a firm "Sorry, not sorry. Too bad, so sad."

The match in Nashville held significant importance for Texans fans due to the Titans' decision to wear Oilers uniforms. As reported by Houston Daily, despite missing key players C.J. Stroud, Nico Collins, Tank Dell, and Will Anderson Jr., the Texans managed to triumph over the Titans on what was dubbed as "Oilers Day." The newspaper further reported that emergency quarterback Case Keenum filled in for Stroud, delivering a performance of 229 passing yards and one score. This was complemented by rusher Devin Singletary’s 121-yard afternoon.

Kaimi Fairbairn played a crucial role in securing this much-needed win for Houston with a successful 54-yard kick. Despite previously being sidelined due to a quad injury, Fairbairn contributed significantly to the Texans’ points tally and helped them recover from an early 13-point deficit.

"Whoever steps on that field, we expect our guys to give their best and that’s what our guys did today," said DeMeco Ryans, Texans head coach according to The Associated Press (AP).

Houston Daily also provided some historical context about Oilers' relocation saga. The Oilers had been an integral part of America's fourth-largest city from 1960 to 1996 until owner Bud Adams moved the team to Tennessee after failing to secure a replacement for the Astrodome. The Texans were subsequently established in 1999 and commenced their play in 2002.
