HISD to Host Bus Driver Hiring Event on Feb. 28

Houston Independent School District (HISD) will be hosting a Transportation Job Fair on Wednesday, Feb. 28, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Northwest Motor Pool complex. The event aims to hire bus drivers and micro bus drivers for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year.

According to the district, HISD bus drivers can earn an hourly wage of $18 with guaranteed minimum hours per day. Successful candidates also have the opportunity to earn an additional $500 per month for perfect attendance during the first 10 months of employment. In addition, employees will receive free CDL training if applicable, along with a range of competitive benefits such as health, dental, and vision insurance, participation in the Teacher Retirement System, a 403(b) retirement plan, and special trip pay options.

Interested individuals can register for the job fair online and apply for the positions on the Houston ISD website. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, hold a valid Texas driver’s license, and have a motor vehicle report with less than six points. Additionally, candidates must bring their Social Security card and employment authorization card, if applicable, and be able to pass various screenings and investigations.

In preparation for the event, applicants are reminded to be proficient in English communication, both verbally and in writing. This includes being able to pass a background investigation, drug and alcohol screening, and a Department of Transportation physical.
