Governor Greg Abbott has revealed the initial members of the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Consortium Executive Committee (TSIC EC) during an event held at the University of Texas Dallas (UT Dallas). The committee's primary goal is to oversee the operations of the Consortium and collaborate with industry stakeholders to solidify Texas' standing as a national frontrunner in advanced semiconductor research, design, and manufacturing.

In his address, Governor Abbott emphasized Texas' historical significance in the semiconductor realm, stating, "Texas is the birthplace of the integrated circuit, and we now lead the nation as the No. 1 state for semiconductor manufacturing." He highlighted the importance of recent legislative initiatives, such as the Texas CHIPS Act, in bolstering the state's position in the semiconductor industry. The Governor expressed confidence that through the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Consortium and the Executive Committee, Texas will not only maintain its status as a top state for semiconductors but will also emerge as a global leader in semiconductor innovation.

Speaker Dade Phelan echoed Governor Abbott's sentiments, asserting, "Semiconductors are increasingly ubiquitous in our everyday lives, and it is important we work to ensure Texas remains at the forefront of advanced semiconductor research and design."

The appointments to the TSIC EC were a collaborative effort involving Governor Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, and Speaker Dade Phelan. Dr. David Daniel Jr., Sameer Pendharkar, and Lawrence "Larry" Smith were appointed by the Governor, with Dr. Daniel assuming the role of chair. Lieutenant Governor Patrick appointed Jeff Smith and Guy Schweppe, while the Speaker appointed Eric Almgren and David Lee to the Executive Committee.

Lieutenant Governor Patrick emphasized the significance of Texas' semiconductor industry, stating, "Our continued leadership in the semiconductor industry will bring major investment and high-quality jobs into our state and is instrumental for a brighter Texas future."

The Texas CHIPS Act, signed into law by Governor Abbott last year, aims to leverage the state's investments in the semiconductor sector, encourage expansion of semiconductor-related companies in Texas, enhance expertise and capacity at Texas higher education institutions, and uphold Texas' dominance in semiconductor manufacturing.

The individuals appointed to the Executive Committee bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the table, representing various sectors of the semiconductor industry. Their contributions are expected to play a pivotal role in driving further growth and innovation within the Texas semiconductor landscape.
