Governor Greg Abbott was named the 2024 Texan of the Year by the Texas Legislative Conference for his significant contributions to the state's economy. At an award reception in New Braunfels, Governor Abbott expressed his gratitude, stating, "Not only is Texas the headquarters of headquarters, but our small businesses also employ nearly half of all working Texans."
Acknowledging the pivotal role of Texans in driving the state's success, Governor Abbott emphasized, "Whether you own a business, are an educator, or working in healthcare, Texans are the reason our state and our economy continues to lead the nation." He further expressed his pride in serving Texas, proclaiming, "I am honored to receive the Texan of the Year award, and I’m proud to have the opportunity to serve the greatest state in the greatest country in the history of the world."
Addressing a gathering of 350 business and industry leaders, Governor Abbott praised Texas as a leader in small business job growth and underscored the significance of small businesses in solidifying Texas' position as the eighth-largest economy globally. Additionally, he highlighted Texas' achievements, including being recognized as the nation’s Top Business Climate and the Best State for Business for a record-breaking 19 consecutive years.
Governor Abbott also celebrated the enactment of the largest property tax cut in Texas history, amounting to $18 billion returning to hardworking Texans. The Texas Legislative Conference, a nonpartisan organization of Texas business and political leaders, bestowed the Texan of the Year award on Governor Abbott for his remarkable efforts in advancing the state's economy and business climate.
