University of Houston Lands 18 Programs in Latest QS World University Rankings

The University of Houston has once again proven its global standing with 18 programs ranking among the top in the world, as per the 2024 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject. The rankings were released today by QS Quacquarelli Symonds.

Among the highlighted programs, UH’s hospitality programs at the Conrad N. Hilton College of Global Hospitality Leadership secured a world rank of No. 35, while the petroleum engineering program in the Cullen College of Engineering also made its mark by ranking in the top 100 worldwide (51-100).

Diane Z. Chase, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Houston, expressed pride in the institution's recognition, stating, “We are pleased to have yet one more accolade confirming the quality of our programs. Our faculty members are at the forefront of groundbreaking research spanning various fields, positioning UH as a global leader in advancing societal progress and fostering innovation.”

The QS World University Rankings by Subject assess 55 narrow academic disciplines and five broad faculty areas by considering the reputation and research output of nearly 5,000 institutions globally. The evaluation offers an independent comparative analysis of over 16,400 university programs in 96 locations worldwide.

Regarding the broader disciplines, UH achieved an overall world ranking in three of the five categories: engineering and technology, natural sciences, and social sciences and management.

QS senior vice president Ben Sowter highlighted the global trends in university performance, emphasizing the significance of factors like international outlook, diversity among students and faculty, and research collaborations. Sowter noted, “Meanwhile, the development of partnerships with industry correlates with improved performance in employment and research.”

The University of Houston's programs that received recognition in the QS World Rankings by Subject span various disciplines including Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences and Management, Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences and Medicine, and Natural Sciences. Among these are fields like English Language & Literature, Hospitality & Leisure Management, Petroleum Engineering, Psychology, and Mathematics, showcasing the institution's diverse academic strengths.
