BrainCheck, based in Houston, is a vital source for estimating the cognitive health of patients.

It is used by health and wellness providers internationally. BrainCheck was founded in 2015 by Dr. David Eagleman and Dr. Yael Katz.

The goal of BrainCheck is to reduce cognitive and economic losses caused by dementia and cognitive impairment. It accomplishes this through interactive cognitive assessment and cognitive care planning technology. BrainCheck is used by hundreds of hospitals around the world, impacts thousands of patients and caregivers and saves the health care system trillions of dollars.

"BrainCheck’s mission is to democratize cognitive health by detecting cognitive impairment earlier, which helps clinicians confidently assess and implement treatments that preserve brain health and functional independence," Katz told the Houston Daily.

Katz later described the type of relationship BrainCheck had with health and wellness providers.

"By using BrainCheck, primary care doctors and neurologists have access to a sophisticated diagnostic aid that allows them to make a diagnosis when appropriate," Katz said. "The platform has been designed in close collaboration with clinicians to meet their specific goal of delivering comprehensive cognitive care throughout the patient's journey."

Katz also discussed BrainCheck's goals for the future.

"Our goal is to be adopted globally and we will be adding several new features to BrainCheck that support the entire healthcare ecosystem," Katz said. "Our new developments will include additional cognitive and voice-based assessments that can help doctors to make differential cognitive diagnoses earlier and more effectively. As new dementia drugs come to market, BrainCheck aims to be a critical tool in properly diagnosing patients so that they may be considered, when appropriate, for these new drugs. We will continue to develop our technology to align with the needs of our customers and support them in providing the best patient care possible."

BrainCheck is a mobile interactive test for cognitive health. BrainCheck allows users to track their brain health for significant changes and share results with clinicians.

It is the result of 20 years of research conducted at the Eagleman Laboratory for Perception and Action at the Baylor College of Medicine. Eagleman has been studying and creating reliable, noninvasive ways to understand the inner workings of the brain and assess brain function with innovative neurocognitive testing.

BrainCheck's neurocognitive test can help clinicians identify dementia and concussions. Recently, it has also been applied to post-COVID-19 brain fog. BrainCheck can be used in person or remotely on a tablet or laptop.
