The Edna Independent School District (EISD) has declared that it will not host a vigil for Lizbeth Medina, an Edna High School student found deceased in her apartment by her mother. The public school district, located at least 106 miles southwest of Houston, stated that it does not wish to interfere with the ongoing investigation and expressed concerns for the safety of all students.

According to a report from Houston ABC affiliate KTRK News, Jacqueline Medina, the teenager's mother, informed authorities that she discovered her daughter's body after she failed to appear with the Edna High School cheerleaders at Edna’s Lighted Christmas Parade earlier this month.

KTRK also reported that the Edna Police Department (EPD) has released images of a person and vehicle of interest. The EPD stated in a press release that the man was seen wearing a black "Volcom" hooded sweatshirt and driving a silver Ford Taurus, believed to have been manufactured in the last decade. According to KTRK, this person of interest may have a tattoo behind his right ear.

Houston CBS station KHOU News reported that the Texas Rangers are assisting the EPD with their investigation into this case. They further reported that anyone with information should contact EPD at 361-782-6522 or Crime Stoppers at 361-552-CASH(2274).
