The generosity of a nightspot owner is helping the families of a northeast Houston high school keep the lights on at their homes, Houston CBS affiliate KHOU reported

According to the station, Steven Rogers, the proprietor of Bar 5015 and Almeda Hospitality Group, visited the Houston Independent School District’s (HISD) North Forest High School on Thursday to announce that he would cover the electricity bills of its students’ families.

Rogers himself is an alumnus of North Forest, the station reported.

Using the once-popular slang term, “lit,” KHOU reported, he explained how he lives his life – to lead, improve and thrive.

He hopes the latest crop of students to walk the halls of North Forest would do the same.

Per Rogers, the families are experiencing some sort of struggle right now and he wants to see to it they get the help they need.

"I've been blessed and fortunate enough to come out of this area and go on and reach a lot of my goals and this is a way of me giving back to the community that helped me become the person that I am today,” he said in the report.

KHOU reported that Rogers has given back to the North Forest community for many years, with 20 families benefiting from his latest monetary gift.

Another example of Rogers’ philanthropy was on display in late December when he and his ventures helped Houstonians who headed out of town for the Christmas holidays fill their gas tanks up for free.

Houston NBC affiliate KPRC reported that 100 lucky families who pulled up to the Chevron station at 5800 Almeda Rd. around noon on Friday, Dec. 23, 2022, were covered by Rogers.

Per KPRC, Bar 5015, which is Houston’s Museum District, hosts an expo to help children under the age of 18 interested in going into business.
