Abbott, family spend Thanksgiving volunteering with Meals on Wheels

Gov. Greg Abbott, First Lady Cecilia Abbott, and their daughter Audrey spent part of their Thanksgiving Day volunteering with Meals on Wheels Central Texas. The state’s First Family assisted the non-profit organization with delivering Thanksgiving dinners to homebound seniors in Austin and were accompanied by Meals on Wheels Central Texas President and CEO Henry Van De Putte. This event took place on November 25, 2021.

"It’s an honor to work alongside the dedicated Meals On Wheels volunteers as they bring warmth and nourishment to Texans during this Thanksgiving holiday," the governor said in the release. "The spirit of giving and sharing a meal together embodies the true essence of this holiday," Abbott said in the release. "My family and I wish everyone in Texas a very blessed and happy Thanksgiving," the governor said in the release.", said Greg Abbott.

Moving on from Governor Abbott's statement, According to the release, Abbott said he and his family are grateful toward Meals on Wheels for the opportunity to volunteer, encouraging Texans to search for ways to support the less fortunate in their respective communities.

In addition to his volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, Austin Journal reported that Abbott, a Republican, was joined by former President Donald J. Trump in Edinburg, near the southern border with Mexico, to serve Thanksgiving dinner to those serving in Operation Lone Star (OLS) before the holiday week.
The publication reported that Abbott and Trump fed more than 240 Texas National Guard soldiers, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers, and other service members sent to the border.

On another note relating political affairs, The Texas Tribune reported that Abbott endorsed Trump—who served as America's 45th commander-in-chief from 2017 to 2021—for the Republican nomination for president in 2024.
Currently leading a crowded field of aspirants aiming to succeed Biden as the 47th president, Trump responded by saying "Mr. Governor, I am going to make your job much easier," promising focus on other issues within Texas.
