Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner extended a warm welcome to the crew of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Artemis II at Houston City Hall. The astronauts, accompanied by Johnson Space Center Director Vanessa E. Wyche, engaged in discussions with council members, municipal employees, and some of their children.

Artemis II is scheduled to orbit the moon late next year. The spacecraft will carry a four-person crew consisting of Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist 1 Christina Hammock Koch, and Mission Specialist 2 Jeremy Hansen, according to the release.

NASA stated in the release that the flight duration would be up to ten days. "These four astronauts are not just embarking on a mission to orbit the moon; they are pioneers representing the aspirations of humanity," said Turner.

According to Houston Daily's report in April, Artemis II marks the first crewed moon mission in 50 years. The publication further reported that the astronauts were introduced during an event at Ellington Field.
